Why Mau Mau fighters want Ruto kicked out of office
A section of Mau Mau fighters from the Mt Kenya region has filed a petition in court seeking for the removal of Deputy President William Ruto.
In their petition, the fighters led by Michael Kurungia claimed that DP Ruto has absconded his constitutional duties as the country’s second in command.
The Mau mau fighter listed several grounds in their petition including; gross misconduct and consistent attacks of the government in which he currently serves.
The group also accused the DP of using public resources to campaign for his August, 2022 presidential bid.
Citing article 147(1) (2) of the Constitution, the group claimed the DP is no longer serving as principal assistant to the president as prescribed in the Supreme law of the land.

“The Deputy President William Ruto has failed to perform the functions conferred to him by the Constitution.
“Unless the orders sought are granted, the public is going to suffer irreparable loss and damage,” the group’s petition read in part as quoted by The Star.
The group wants the court to find the DP guilty of violating the Constitution and absconding his official duties.
The group also wants the court to issue an order barring the DP from using his official Karen residence for conducting United Democratic Alliance (UDA) political meetings until the matter is heard and determined.
The case is set for hearing on April 28, 2022.
Meanwhile, the DP has on several occasions dismissed claims of absconding duty, noting that he has fulfilled every obligation handed to him by his boss President Kenyatta.
“No work has been given to me and I failed to execute… My boss has not complained about my performance, who are they to complain about my work? Who made them my supervisors?” te DP said at a past interview.
According to the DP, those supervising his work should quit doing so and focus on their businesses, as he does not report to them.
