Don’t lose your dream of becoming a manager, fresh graduates told
By Peter Ochieng
Fresh graduates have been advised to use employment spaces as a stepping stone towards owning their companies or businesses.
Jenipher Musuya, KMET Technical and Vocational Training College (KTVTC) principal said employment should never come between graduates and owning a business in the future.
“Don’t lose your dream in employment. Remember your dream to become a manager, your dream to own your own business. As you work, what is happening is that you’re being mentored to manage your own business,” she said.
“Be keen on acquiring the new skills as a manager so that by the time you leave your employment space, you’re able to run your company, you are able to run your business,” she added.
She said through KMET’s microfinance, they are ready to offer graduates technical support geared towards enabling them to own a business.
The principal addressed the press on Friday afternoon at the end of KTVTC’s 5th graduation ceremony, held at the Mama Grace Onyango Social Hall in Kisumu.
Some 80 learners joined the job market, after undergoing extensive training in various faculties, including fashion design management, beauty therapy, food and beverage production, computer operator and social work among others.
KTVTC is based in Tom Mboya estate, Kisumu offering certificate and diploma courses. In partnership with other organisations, the college offers sponsorship opportunities to selected students from vulnerable backgrounds.
One such organisation is the Hope Development Centre, managed by Susan Agumba.
“We have sent some girls to the college and we have seen progress through the years that they have been there. Today we are happy three of our girls have graduated. We are happy because they are competent and ready for the market,” said Agumba.
Some of the students who graduated, led by Mary Achieng said the learning environment was friendly, adding that they are very ready for the job market.
