Kirinyaga County Commissioner (CC) Nayioma Tobiko has warned second-generation liquor vendors operating in the area.
Tobiko, speaking at Kianyaga General Kasama Ground, Gichungu Constituency during Mashujaa day celebrations said the vice had been contained but is now creeping back.
"We are aware of second-generation liquor in some parts of the county and please report anybody selling the same to the security team," he said.
At the same time, Tobiko has called on the general public to take advantage of this rainy season and plant more trees in line with President Dr. William Ruto’s directives of planting 15 billion trees in a span of ten years.
The CC called on the Kirinyaga residents to be watchful during this time, when the El Nino rain is being experienced, especially those living in areas that are at high risk of experiencing landslides and flooding.
His sentiments were echoed by the Kirinyaga forest conservator Peter Ng’ang’a.
"We will be visiting your areas with other forest officials to help you with seedlings and also partner with you to ensure we plant more trees during this rainy season.
Our target is to plant seven million trees in Kirinyaga County and currently, we have managed to plant 1.1 million trees.
We encourage the residents to start their own tree sideling’s bed which is going to help in attaining our target as a county,” Ng’ang’a said.
