Thugs break into radio station, steal equipment worth millions

By Peter Ochieng A Kisumu Radio station is a shell, after unknown people broke in on the night of Monday, March 21, 2022, and made away with equipment worth millions of shillings. Following the incident, management of Manene Radio, an online Radio Station broadcasting from Dunga, Kisumu City is counting loses running into millions of shillings. "It is a dark Tuesday for us. Everything gone. Manene Radio is a shell," reads a post on the Station's Facebook page. [caption id="attachment_10539" align="alignnone" width="620"] File image of a police car ferrying suspects. [Photo: Courtesy][/caption]According to Sam Segele, the Station's Managing Director, the suspects broke into their studios and managed to walk away with a range of studio equipment. "They took the mixer, four computers, all microphones, microphone stands, sound cards among others. Approximately, we lost equipment worth Sh8 Million," Segele told this writer over the phone. He said some three guys were sleeping in a room adjacent to the studio, but curiously they did not hear anything during the break in. The matter is now a police case. "We reported the matter at Nyalenda police station, before proceeding to Central police station, Kisumu. Police officers have already been on the ground," said Segele. "They have already done fingerprints dusting," he added. "As at now, I don't have any suspect in mind." The OB number is OB: 13/22/03/2022. Kisumu City is home to a host of other Radio Station's which rule airwaves, alongside Manene Radio. They include Radio Lake Victoria, Namlolwe FM, Urban Radio, Radio Maria and SKY FM.
