By Joshua Cheloti Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata says Kenyans will have to thank Deputy President William Ruto for successfully framing the upcoming general election in non-ethnic terms. According to Kanga’ata, the August 9, 2022 poll will be the first time the country will be holding an issue-based election – all thanks to the DP. In a tweet, the vocal Senator said under the leadership of DP Ruto, politics of ethnicity will be killed. He expressed hope that gains made so far will never be reversed. “Ours is the generation that will kill ethnicity in politics. Kenya is on course to hold the first "issue-based" elections. Kenya has to thank this man - Dr. Ruto. He framed the election in non- ethnic terms and succeeded. Kenya hope this doesn't get reversed going forward,” the legislator posted on his official Twitter handle while captioning a photo of DP Ruto. The agenda aims at supporting common mwananchi such as bodaboda operators, vegetable sellers among others. With his bottom-up agenda, the DP and his allies say they have been able to ensure the 2022 politics is all about issues affecting common mwananchi and not about which community has the highest number of voters. They also boost of creating the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), a party they say has a membership that cuts across all communities in the country. UDA has endorsed DP Ruto as its presidential candidate in a National Delegates Conference (NDC) that was recently held. The party is also part of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance that consists of Amani National Congress (ANC), Ford Kenya and Chama Cha Kazi of Moses Kuria as well as William Kabogo’s Tujibebe Wakenya Party that recently joined them. Kenya Kwanza has not yet formally declared who will be its presidential candidate, even with the Mount Kenya and Western region fighting for the running mate position.
