Maralal Police impound vehicle ferrying litres of illicit liquor brew

Police in Maralal town have impounded a vehicle ferrying more than 1000 litres of illicit liquor Brew following a tipoff from members of the public.

Samburu County commissioner Mr Henry Wafula said police at Suguta Marmar roadblock intercepted the vehicle and upon inspection, the officers discovered the illegal goods on transit.

He said the driver of the vehicle was arrested and held for questioning and was helping the police with investigations before the case is presented to the Court for determination.

Wafula commended the members of the public for their cooperation with the law enforcement officers in netting the illicit brew cartel who preliminary investigations indicated were making huge returns by ferrying the illicit concoction from other counties into Samburu.

“I want to thank the area residents for informing the police of such criminal activity in the area to help curb transportation of the illicit brew from other counties to Samburu county unnoticed,” he said.

The commissioner urged residents to be wary of such unscrupulous business people who were out to make money out of the miseries of others, especially during this holiday season when even schoolchildren could easily be lured into indulging in consumption of the brew.

He also called on parents to be careful and advise their children over illegal illicit brew and drug abuse in their respective areas
