Under the Finlays Community Trust Fund, 30 students from feeble backgrounds have a reason to smile after being awarded full scholarships.
The program, run by the multinational tea company based in Kericho and Bomet Counties, has benefitted over 1,000 needy students for over the years with this being the latest cohort.
According to Bomet Deputy Governor Shadrach Rotich, the scholarship was a welcome addition to similar programs geared towards ensuring that students from poor backgrounds, access quality education just like their peers from able homes.
Rotich said the Finlays program has also been involved in putting up learning infrastructures in learning institutions including classrooms, especially Chepalungu and Bomet East, parts deemed dry and more vulnerable to poverty.
While underscoring the importance of education as an equalizer, the deputy governor said players in the sector should ensure they maintain high-quality standards of education, especially by constantly reviewing the syllabus and aligning it with modern realities and needs of learners.
He said the program went hand in hand with a similar plan by the County Government of Bomet in which 10 students per Ward have so far received full scholarships.
