Machakos Chief of Staff Lawrence Ngovi has defended the County over the report by the Budget controller that Machakos County did not spend a coin on development projects.
The Chief of staff who represented the Governor during press brief outside the Governor’s office on Friday said that the County has been working tirelessly and have so far done 586 development projects.
Ngovi added that Machakos County has recently constructed 80 dams across the county which they ensured meet the required standards to help the residents in farming and improving their yields.
He assured Machakos residents that they should not be rattled by the report and that the county is committed to increasing development to improve the lives of Machakos people.
Ngovi however blamed the National Government for repeatedly delaying the allocation of funds to the devolved units.
“When the National Government delays the disbursements of funds to the county government it should not blame the Counties for their own delays,” pointed Ngovi.
Ngovi who later flagged off of trucks ferrying assorted food to be distributed to vulnerable families in Machakos, noted that they are giving food to 1000 vulnerable families in Machakos during the festive season.
He hailed the County department of Social welfare and Special programmes for organizing the food stuffs to the vulnerable in Machakos County.
This comes a day after Machakos County was named among the nine Counties who have failed to spend a single shilling on development.
